Joel Mull
Holographic EP
'Holographic' is the lead single taken from techno giant Joel Mull's forthcoming LP, 'Sensory' - the Swedish producer's third Album under his own name. Having produced for a dazzling array of pivotal techno labels such as Music Man, Harthouse and Cocoon as well as contemporary trailblazers Liebe*Detail, Audiomatique and Saved, Mull is truly a veteran who has driven his sound forward. Leading the charge is the somewhat misleadingly titled 'Danny Boy', which is less Irish folk and more sleek tech-house characterised by intense knocking percussion and a simple but massively effective arrangement which oozes quality. 'Holographic' continues the percussive form and is a low slung affair, lifted gently by a nagging keys and punctuated with background drum fills and heavily effected, otherworldly vocal sounds. 'Duh Dub' closes the package with a punch. Kick heavy, stomping and rhythmic, it's an exercise in groove control which Mull pulls off superbly by using the ebb and flow of effects and layering of percussion to add intensity and then pull it back at just the right moment.
