Truesoul starts 2010 with a strong return to form that stands proudly next to recent releases by Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch and Joel Mull. Debuting on Truesoul in 2009 with the emotive Sky Is Falling EP, Dustin Zahn has received critical acclaim for his work on Drumcode, Rekids, and his own Enemy Records. A keen experimenter with sound and style; the restrained tension that runs through this EP is testament to Zahns desire to evolve techno beyond the norm.
Title track Walk Alone marks the atmospheric tone for the EP. Set against the backdrop of a robotic groove and edgy harmonic stabs the track moves through subtle gear changes before peaking with a haunting and melodic wood block riff.
Loves Made You Weak exemplifies the musical statement of this EP. Constructed from a modest selection of elements the track contrasts a relentless mechanical rhythm against uplifting chords to create a linear yet emotive groove.
BCJ (Bangin, Clangin & Jackin) as the title suggests is a heavily percussive cut drawing on Zahns finely tuned grasp of drum patterns to create a rolling tribal groove. Heavy bass, whispered vocals and wild chants complete the trippy vibe.
Circadian Rhythm continues the percussive feel of the EP but opts for a more stripped back, sparse feel. Focused on a big heavy kick and driven along by a seductive conga line this harmonic rhythm track will work great for the longer sets
