The producer bubbled to attention with impressive cuts on Ellum Audio, led by ‘The Rails’, before following up with releases on Pig&Dan’s Elevate and Fur Coat’s Oddity imprint. A qualified sound engineer, the 25-year-old possesses a talent and distinct musical signature that belies his years. While mining old school techno and electro for inspiration, he’s resolutely a futurist, melding these textures with melodic elements and sci-fi sensibilities to create an immersive sonic world. ‘Somewhere EP’ is an exciting step in the Turkey-based artist’s evolution. The work begins with ‘Void’ characterised by menacing metallic soundscapes and head-caving reverb that begs to be played on a hefty soundsystem. The title track is an ice-cool roller, heavy on dramatic tension and narrative arc, reinforcing Lenix’s production skills. ‘M81’ utilises pitch modulated pads as a bed for the snaking bassline that connects with thrilling club-ready effect. The EP concludes with ‘Clara’, a beautiful electro-tinged cut featuring Daniela Serey on vocals. An impressive and very interesting debut from an artist set for a rapid ascendent.
